Critic's Reviews

Critic's Pick:

For a big space, this warmly lit, comfortably furnished room feels rather cozy, like being in someone's home...Many wines to choose from, including a great-value Portuguese house red. Corkage $25.

Suggested Plates

On the Menu:

The menu combines Portuguese classics (grilled sardines) with modern touches (beef tenderloin with mango sauce). In the former category, two grilled, flambéed chorizo show the sausage in different renditions: one mild and chewy, the other a rich blood pudding. Decent warm goat cheese salad is one of the few non-fish options available. Signature entrées are thick soups cooked in copper dishes (cataplanas): seafood cataplana comes with enough tender monkfish, clams, lobster, shrimp, scallops and potatoes (bathed in excellent tomato broth) to almost satisfy two appetites. Daily fish specials are another forte, where one night expertly cooked skate nestles into sweet, creamy tomato risotto. Homemade desserts—featuring lots of fruit and custard—disappoint; agreeable service does not.
