1. Dutch Dreams
 
Truly an ice cream lover's fantasy, Dutch Dreams has been a Toronto landmark for almost twenty years. With an enchanting selection of decadent sundaes, desserts, delicious Dutch candies and cookies unmatched anywhere, Dutch Dreams has developed a loyal following of customers.

Baked Alaska and flambés are made to order and garnished with the highest quality toppings. Prepared from scratch, Dutch pancakes are served filled with three scoops of ice cream and smothered in fresh fruit, toasted almonds, chocolate sauce, Dutch caramel sauce, whipped cream, and powdered sugar. Milkshakes are a full litre in size, made with the ice cream of your choice, and garnished with sliced banana, a chocolate-dipped strawberry, whipped cream and a wafer. With over fifty flavours of ice cream and hundreds of frozen yogurt fruit combinations available, choosing what to order can be maddeningly difficult for the indecisive. Maybe that's why customers return again and again-they still haven't tried everything on the menu!

Every bit as eclectic as its menu, the decor at Dutch Dreams blends Dutch and Canadian antiques, pictures and bric-a-brac. Model airplanes, old hockey skates, wooden cross-country skis and toy hot air balloons hang from the ceiling. Delft blue china and tiles cover the walls alongside souvenir photos of Dutch royalty. 3. Greg's Ice Cream
 
Greg's is the true goal of many museum visitors. Greg offers homemade premium ice cream. Sweet Cream and Roasted Marshmallow are the stars. The New York Times

Greg Mahon is one of the only artists in the city who still makes ice cream in single batches, instead of in the new, far more cost-efficient continuous-process machines. Connoisseurs can taste the difference, but I have to admit to a problem when it comes to cold, hard analysis. By the time I get around to thinking about Greg's malted vanilla or grape nut or lime chiffon or (Lord, have mercy) roasted marshmallow, my bowl is empty. Eggnog is the only ice cream that contains eggs; all the flavors boast natural ingredients, no dyes or essences, 14 per cent butterfat just as they did when Mahon first set up shop 20 years ago. 4. Solferino
 
Headed up by Ana Maria Ortiz, who boasts a Masters in Food Science and 15 years of experience running 5 gelateria in Bogota, Columbia, the gelato here is creamy enough to be luscious and flavourful enough to herald a taste bud awakening. Solferino’s does not offer a large selection of gelatos, but each gelato is hand made by Ana Maria from scratch, without reliance on a pre-manufactured base. Martini Boys
